OFFICIAL POLICY, ACADEMIC GUIDELINES & LEGAL DISCLOSURE DOCUMENT
(For Students, Study Centres, Practitioners & Public Information)
- INTRODUCTION & INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVE
Board of Naturopathy and Yoga Systems of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as “BNYSM”) is an educational and training-oriented body engaged in the promotion, dissemination, and structured learning of Yoga and Naturopathy.
BNYSM operates with the objective of encouraging awareness regarding natural, non-invasive, and lifestyle-based health practices in society, strictly within the framework of applicable educational and legal norms.
This document constitutes the official policy, conduct guidelines, and legal disclaimer framework applicable to all students, study centres, trainers, and associated persons.
- LEGAL STATUS & SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES
2.1 BNYSM functions as an educational/training institution engaged in certificate-based academic programs in Yoga and Naturopathy.
2.2 The scope of BNYSM is strictly limited to:
- Academic instruction and training
- Certificate-based educational programs
- Awareness and skill development in Yoga and Naturopathy
2.3 BNYSM does not function as a statutory medical licensing authority, nor does it authorize independent medical practice under any system of medicine.
- CERTIFICATION POLICY & DEGREE DISCLAIMER
3.1 BNYSM expressly clarifies that:
- It does NOT award any academic degree (Degree) under any circumstances.
- It does NOT claim or represent itself as a degree-granting university or statutory medical council.
3.2 All programs conducted by BNYSM are strictly Certificate Courses only.
3.3 Any misrepresentation, advertisement, or communication suggesting that BNYSM issues degrees shall be treated as unauthorized and contrary to institutional policy.
- BNYS COURSE ADMISSION STATUS
4.1 BNYSM hereby declares that admissions to BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences) course have been suspended with effect from the year 2018 onwards.
4.2 No new admissions are being undertaken in BNYS program until further official notification.
4.3 Re-commencement of the said program shall be considered only upon receipt of appropriate regulatory/administrative guidelines from competent authorities.
- STATUS OF PRE-2018 STUDENTS
5.1 Students who were duly enrolled in BNYS course up to the year 2018 and admitted in the first year of study have completed or shall complete their academic requirements as per institutional records.
5.2 All certificates and academic records issued to such enrolled candidates shall be treated as valid for academic recognition within the scope of the institution’s certification framework.
- STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT & PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
All students, trainees, and practitioners are required to strictly adhere to the following:
6.1 Scope Limitation
- Yoga and Naturopathy shall be practiced only as supportive and complementary wellness systems.
- These systems shall not be treated as substitutes for any established medical treatment.
6.2 Prohibition of Cross-Pathy
- Practitioners shall not engage in Cross-Pathy practice under any circumstance.
- Use of medicines, instruments, or methods outside the scope of training is strictly prohibited.
6.3 Patient Safety Obligations
- No patient shall be misled or given false assurance of cure.
- In all serious, emergency, or critical cases, immediate referral to a registered medical practitioner or government-approved hospital is mandatory.
6.4 Ethical Treatment Approach
- Only supportive natural methods such as lifestyle correction, diet guidance, sun exposure, air therapy, water therapy, and related naturopathic principles shall be used within training limits.
6.5 Prohibition of Misleading Claims
- Claims of “guaranteed cure”, “permanent elimination of disease”, or similar assertions are strictly prohibited.
- No assurance shall be given regarding terminal, chronic, or complex diseases.
- PROFESSIONAL AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE
7.1 All students and centres shall comply with applicable laws of Government of India and respective State Governments.
7.2 Practitioners shall ensure that their activities do not violate:
- Indian Penal Code (as applicable laws)
- Information Technology laws (where relevant)
- Medical ethics regulations
- Local administrative health guidelines
7.3 BNYSM disclaims responsibility for any unauthorized or independent acts of individuals beyond institutional training scope.
- USE OF DESIGNATION / TITLE
8.1 No student or practitioner is permitted to use the prefix “Doctor” unless specifically authorized under applicable statutory medical law.
8.2 Any misleading representation of qualification or professional status is strictly prohibited and may attract disciplinary and legal consequences.
- RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES
The following activities are strictly prohibited under BNYSM guidelines:
- Practice of any medical system outside authorized training scope
- Possession or use of unauthorized medicinal substances or equipment
- False advertising or misleading patient communication
- Commercial exploitation of patients through false medical claims
- LEGAL DISCLAIMER & LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
10.1 BNYSM is an educational body and does not provide or endorse any form of independent medical treatment authority.
10.2 All students, practitioners, and centres operate at their own professional responsibility and accountability.
10.3 BNYSM shall not be held liable for:
- Any misuse of training
- Misrepresentation by individuals or centres
- Independent clinical decisions taken outside prescribed guidelines
10.4 Any violation of these guidelines may result in disciplinary action including cancellation of enrollment, certification, or affiliation without prior notice.

BNYSM का उद्देश्य समाज में प्राकृतिक, गैर-आक्रामक और जीवनशैली आधारित स्वास्थ्य प्रथाओं के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाना है, और यह कार्य केवल लागू शैक्षिक और कानूनी मानदंडों के दायरे में किया जाता है।
यह दस्तावेज़ सभी छात्रों, अध्ययन केंद्रों, प्रशिक्षकों और संबंधित व्यक्तियों के लिए आधिकारिक नीति, आचार संहिता और कानूनी खुलासा ढांचा है।
2. कानूनी स्थिति और गतिविधियों का दायरा
2.1 BNYSM एक शैक्षिक/प्रशिक्षण संस्था के रूप में कार्य करता है जो योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा में प्रमाण पत्र-आधारित शैक्षिक कार्यक्रम संचालित करता है।
2.2 BNYSM का दायरा केवल निम्नलिखित तक सीमित है:
शैक्षिक निर्देश और प्रशिक्षण
प्रमाण-पत्र आधारित शैक्षिक कार्यक्रम
योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा में जागरूकता और कौशल विकास
2.3 BNYSM एक वैधानिक चिकित्सा लाइसेंसिंग प्राधिकरण के रूप में कार्य नहीं करता है, न ही यह किसी चिकित्सा पद्धति के तहत स्वतंत्र चिकित्सा अभ्यास को अधिकृत करता है।
3. प्रमाणन नीति और डिग्री अस्वीकरण
3.1 BNYSM स्पष्ट रूप से यह स्पष्ट करता है कि:
यह किसी भी परिस्थिति में कोई शैक्षिक डिग्री (Degree) प्रदान नहीं करता है।
यह खुद को डिग्री-प्रदान करने वाली विश्वविद्यालय या वैधानिक चिकित्सा परिषद के रूप में प्रस्तुत नहीं करता है।
3.2 BNYSM द्वारा संचालित सभी कार्यक्रम केवल प्रमाण-पत्र आधारित पाठ्यक्रम होते हैं।
3.3 BNYSM के द्वारा डिग्री प्रदान करने का कोई विज्ञापन या संचार जो भी होगा, उसे अनधिकृत और संस्थागत नीति के खिलाफ माना जाएगा।
4. BNYS पाठ्यक्रम प्रवेश स्थिति
4.1 BNYSM यहां घोषणा करता है कि BNYS (बैचलर ऑफ नेचुरोपैथी एंड योगिक साइंसेज) पाठ्यक्रम में प्रवेश 2018 से प्रभावी रूप से स्थगित कर दिया गया है।
4.2 इस कार्यक्रम में कोई नई प्रवेश प्रक्रिया नहीं चल रही है जब तक कि आधिकारिक रूप से कोई नई सूचना न हो।
4.3 इस कार्यक्रम का पुनः आरंभ केवल तब विचार किया जाएगा जब सक्षम अधिकारियों से उचित नियामक/प्रशासनिक मार्गदर्शन प्राप्त हो।
5. 2018 से पहले के छात्रों की स्थिति
5.1 वे छात्र जिन्होंने 2018 तक BNYS पाठ्यक्रम में प्रवेश लिया था और पहले वर्ष में दाखिला लिया था, वे अपने शैक्षिक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करेंगे या पहले ही पूरा कर चुके हैं।
5.2 ऐसे छात्रों को जो प्रमाण पत्र और शैक्षिक रिकॉर्ड जारी किए गए हैं, उन्हें संस्थान के प्रमाणन ढांचे के तहत वैध माना जाएगा।
6. छात्र आचार संहिता और व्यावसायिक नैतिकता
सभी छात्रों, प्रशिक्षुओं और चिकित्सकों को निम्नलिखित का पालन करना अनिवार्य है:
6.1 दायरा सीमित करना
योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा केवल सहायक और पूरक स्वास्थ्य प्रणालियों के रूप में अभ्यास की जाए।
इन प्रणालियों को किसी स्थापित चिकित्सा उपचार का स्थानापन्न नहीं माना जाएगा।
6.2 क्रॉस-पैथी की निषेध
चिकित्सकों को किसी भी परिस्थिति में क्रॉस-पैथी के अभ्यास में संलग्न नहीं होना चाहिए।
प्रशिक्षण के दायरे से बाहर दवाओं, उपकरणों या विधियों का उपयोग पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंधित है।
6.3 रोगी सुरक्षा जिम्मेदारियाँ
कोई भी रोगी को गलत आश्वासन या उपचार के बारे में गुमराह नहीं किया जाएगा।
सभी गंभीर, आपातकालीन या जटिल मामलों में पंजीकृत चिकित्सा पेशेवर या सरकारी अस्पताल में तुरंत संदर्भित करना अनिवार्य है।
6.4 नैतिक उपचार दृष्टिकोण
केवल सहायक प्राकृतिक विधियाँ जैसे जीवनशैली सुधार, आहार मार्गदर्शन, सूर्य स्नान, वायु चिकित्सा, जल चिकित्सा, और संबंधित प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा सिद्धांतों का उपयोग किया जाएगा।
6.5 भ्रामक दावों का निषेध
"सुनिश्चित इलाज", "बिमारी का स्थायी समाधान" या इसी प्रकार के दावे पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंधित हैं।
किसी भी प्रकार के दीर्घकालिक, पुरानी या जटिल रोगों के बारे में कोई आश्वासन नहीं दिया जाएगा।
7. व्यावसायिक और कानूनी अनुपालन
7.1 सभी छात्र और केंद्र भारत सरकार और संबंधित राज्य सरकारों के लागू कानूनों का पालन करेंगे।
7.2 चिकित्सक यह सुनिश्चित करेंगे कि उनकी गतिविधियाँ निम्नलिखित का उल्लंघन न करें:
भारतीय दंड संहिता (जैसा कि लागू हो)
सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी कानून (जहां प्रासंगिक हो)
चिकित्सा आचार संहिता
स्थानीय प्रशासनिक स्वास्थ्य दिशानिर्देश
7.3 BNYSM संस्थान के प्रशिक्षण दायरे से बाहर के किसी भी अनधिकृत या स्वतंत्र कार्य के लिए जिम्मेदार नहीं है।
8. पदनाम/उपाधि का उपयोग
8.1 कोई भी छात्र या चिकित्सक "डॉक्टर" उपनाम का उपयोग नहीं कर सकता जब तक कि उसे लागू वैधानिक चिकित्सा कानून के तहत विशेष रूप से अनुमति न हो।
8.2 किसी भी प्रकार की भ्रामक पेशेवर स्थिति या शैक्षिक योग्यता का प्रस्तुतिकरण सख्त रूप से निषेध है और यह अनुशासनात्मक और कानूनी परिणामों का कारण बन सकता है।
9. प्रतिबंधित गतिविधियाँ
BNYSM दिशा-निर्देशों के तहत निम्नलिखित गतिविधियाँ सख्त रूप से निषिद्ध हैं:
किसी भी चिकित्सा प्रणाली का अभ्यास जो अधिकृत प्रशिक्षण दायरे के बाहर हो
अनधिकृत औषधियों या उपकरणों का कब्जा या उपयोग
भ्रामक विज्ञापन या रोगी के साथ गुमराह संवाद
रोगियों का वाणिज्यिक शोषण झूठे चिकित्सा दावों के माध्यम से
10. कानूनी अस्वीकरण और जिम्मेदारी की सीमा
10.1 BNYSM एक शैक्षिक संस्था है और किसी भी प्रकार का स्वतंत्र चिकित्सा उपचार प्राधिकरण प्रदान या समर्थित नहीं करती है।
10.2 सभी छात्र, चिकित्सक और केंद्र अपने पेशेवर जिम्मेदारी और जवाबदेही पर कार्य करते हैं।
10.3 BNYSM को निम्नलिखित के लिए जिम्मेदार नहीं ठहराया जा सकता है:
प्रशिक्षण का दुरुपयोग
व्यक्तियों या केंद्रों द्वारा गलत प्रस्तुतिकरण
निर्धारित दिशा-निर्देशों के बाहर स्वतंत्र चिकित्सीय निर्णय
10.4 इन दिशा-निर्देशों का कोई भी उल्लंघन अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही का कारण बन सकता है जिसमें नामांकन, प्रमाणपत्र या संबद्धता रद्द करना शामिल हो सकता है, बिना पूर्व सूचना के।

4.2 इस पाठ्यक्रम में कोई नई भर्ती या प्रवेश प्रक्रिया नहीं की जा रही है।

सभी छात्रों, प्रशिक्षुओं और चिकित्सकों को निम्नलिखित आचार संहिता और व्यावसायिक नैतिकताओं का पालन करना अनिवार्य है:
6.1 दायरा सीमित करना
- योग और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा केवल सहायक और पूरक स्वास्थ्य प्रणालियों के रूप में अभ्यास किए जाएं।
- इन विधियों को किसी स्थापित चिकित्सा उपचार का विकल्प नहीं माना जाना चाहिए।
6.2 क्रॉस-पैथी का निषेध
- चिकित्सक क्रॉस-पैथी (अलग-अलग चिकित्सा पद्धतियों का मिश्रण) के अभ्यास में संलिप्त नहीं होंगे।
- अनधिकृत औषधियों, उपकरणों या विधियों का उपयोग पूरी तरह से प्रतिबंधित है।
6.3 रोगी सुरक्षा जिम्मेदारियाँ
- रोगियों को किसी भी प्रकार का झूठा आश्वासन या गलत सूचना नहीं दी जाएगी।
- किसी गंभीर या आपातकालीन स्थिति में, रोगी को तुरंत पंजीकृत चिकित्सा पेशेवर या अस्पताल के पास भेजना अनिवार्य है।
6.4 नैतिक उपचार दृष्टिकोण
- केवल प्राकृतिक और सहायक उपायों जैसे जीवनशैली सुधार, आहार निर्देश, सूर्य स्नान, जल चिकित्सा आदि का उपयोग किया जाएगा।
6.5 भ्रामक दावों का निषेध
- “सुनिश्चित इलाज”, “बिमारी का स्थायी समाधान”, या “अनिश्चित बीमारियों का इलाज” जैसे दावे सख्त रूप से निषेध हैं।

COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (CAM)
Complementary and alternative medicine or CAM is the term used for medical practices and products that includes a wide variety of therapies and alternative approaches using natural methods. Complementary medicine or Integrative Medicine is a term used when combining Alternative Medicine with conventional medicine.
Alternative medicines are used in replacement of conventional medicine. A person would use alternative approaches to healing, such as natural herbal remedies, vitamins, herbs, massage, chiropractic care, aromatherapy, homoeopathy energy healing, acupuncture, acupressure, and more, to avoid using pharmaceutical drugs and surgery.

For the first time, an International Yoga Day will be celebrated on 21st of June this year. Prime MinisterNarendra Modi had suggested this honour for yoga and his suggestion got overwhelming support from 177 countries. Yoga has indeed become popular all over the world. Many millions practice it – from schoolchildren to senior citizens – and courses are held down to the village level in many countries of the west. But strangely, in its home country India, yoga was not valued even till a few decades ago. The reason was that under British colonial rule, Indian tradition was projected as worthless and Britain as the perfect role model.
The credit for the revival of yoga in India goes mainly to Swami Ramdev. He established at the outskirts of Haridwar the biggest centre for yoga and ayurveda worldwide, called Patanjali Yogpeeth. Its size is stunning. It includes a yoga university, an ayurvedic hospital, a yoga hall of 25.000 sqm, thousand apartments for guests, conference halls, cafeterias, and several apartment blocks for permanent residents. Ramdev trained numerous yoga teachers there. He also travelled tirelessly through the country for several years teaching yoga and explaining its benefits to millions. Singlehandedly, he changed the negative image of yoga in India.
Sat Bir S. Kalsa, an American Sikh from Harvard Medical School, brought to our notice what amazing acceptance yoga has gained in the west. “Yoga Nation” was the title on the cover of Life magazine, referring to USA. Time magazine followed suit with a cover story. The number of Hollywood stars who practice and praise yoga is continuously increasing. On the lawns of the White House in Washington, yogasanas were demonstrated. “And you know that yoga has finally arrived, when Mc Donald uses it for ads”, laughed Kalsa.
“Yoga is now part of the US culture but is practiced mainly by the upper class and women”, he rued and suggested two avenues to reach the whole society. “In the US, everyone visits his doctor and everyone goes through school. If the doctor would advise yoga to his patients and if we could train every child in school, yoga would be fully accepted as a daily routine, as is brushing teeth. Yet both, healthcare and education, need evidence that yoga is worthwhile and therefore we need research.”
Kalsa painted a grim picture of the state of teenagers in the US – violence, problems with social skills, bullying, attention deficit, binge drinking and suicide attempts are wide-spread. “They require assistance”, he claimed. Yoga in schools is the solution, Kalsa felt.
Will India wait for foreigners to take the lead in putting yoga into the school curriculum?
It was obvious that most western speakers considered yoga a wonderful ‘tool’ to work with – divorced, however, from its philosophy and yoga’s ultimate goal – to merge the small, temporary wave consciously into the big, eternal ocean. Some Indian delegates considered this a drawback or distortion.
“Don’t you feel that by including yama and niyama (the virtues of external and internal purity) into yoga, the benefits would be greater?” an Indian delegate askedJohn Kepner, one of the founders of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), who had just narrated that an US army officer had called him up, asking for qualified yoga teachers for the Armed Forces. “I don’t think the US army is interested in the traditional ways”, Kepner replied with a tinge of haughtiness.
The lack of ethical grounding may be the reason behind the legion of yoga teachers for whom yoga is mainly a lucrative profession. IAYT has developed education standards for yoga therapists to follow. Yet IAYT, too, may not have the right motivation: they demand a costly affiliation from yoga centres if their students want to have the chance to become “certified” yoga therapists.
Swami Ramdev was stern when he said, “It is okay to earn a living by teaching yoga, but it is a crime to patent it”. He touched a sore point between India and the west. “Our ancient Rishis have given this wonderful knowledge free to everyone. Now in the west, they patent it and talk of ‘power yoga’, ‘sex yoga’, etc. Through yoga, the sex drive decreases, but the love between husband and wife increases”, he said to clapping from the audience. “From lust, you cannot produce a healthy baby. If the sex drive decreases, it does not mean one becomes impotent. See, my hand is functioning”, and he stretched out his arm. “It can slap, but it does not slap.”
None of the western speakers touched on the issue of patents. Some 130 patents on yoga have been taken out in the US alone. When I asked one of the founders of IAYT regarding this issue, she stiffened and went on the defensive. “Some people claim that Hinduism owns yoga. We resist that.”
So far, the west had a free run to appropriate Indian knowledge as India did not lay claim to it. In fact, India did not value it. “In the 1930s, under the British, yoga was not respected”, B.K.S. Iyengar narrated. “I feel that only after yoga took roots in the west, Indians also opened up it,” he added.
No doubt, Swami Ramdev is largely responsible for giving a tremendous boost to yoga in India. Swami Chidananda of Parmarth Ashram in Rishikesh remembered that in 1995, he sent a reporter to Swami Ramdev who at that time was teaching yoga in a small hall in Haridwar. “The reporter came back saying, that this was not newsworthy. Today, Swami Ramdev is THE news!” Swami Chidananda exclaimed.
Swami Ramdev has his share of detractors as well. Many feel that his claim that yoga can cure 99 percent of all diseases is preposterous. “Big educated persons say, ‘Baba Ramdev is bad for people. He is misleading them.’ But what I say is the truth. I know it. I don’t tell lies. Those people are intelligent, but their mind is fixed.” Swami Ramdev looked like a small boy who is at a loss to understand how intelligent people are so confident in pronouncing judgment on something they have not experimented upon.
“In the Rig Veda is written that oxygen is the ultimate medicine”, he says. “It is not only the ultimate medicine, it is fire and fire is a synonym for knowledge, brightness, and light. Pran tatva is almighty, it is energy, it is the life force, it is God!” and he added, “disease will enter if the life force is weak. Make yoga your life partner and there won’t be life style diseases.” With amazing ease he quoted numerous Sanskrit shlokas to support whatever he claimed in his talks.
Swami Ramdev has made yoga his life partner. He is an expert. Even his critics won’t deny this. Early in the morning, at a temperature of 5 degree Celsius, he taught yoga in the imposing 250.000 sq feet yoga bhavan to the delegates with only a cotton cloth wrapped around his hips. I was packed in several layers of woolens and still felt cold.
“Whatever I have achieved has been given to me by kapalabhati and anulom vilom pranayam”, he claimed. “Partially, I have been able to attain that extraordinary power and that extraordinary knowledge that is within each one of us. I have felt what is eternal and real. Sages before me, too, have felt it. And I don’t say this to praise myself, but to give you an example.
“There are four types of lives”, he continued. “1. miserable life, 2. ordinary life, 3. successful life and 4. ideal life. You here all have a successful life. Become a yogi and make it an ideal life.”
What Swami Ramdev has achieved in only 15 years – not only regarding yoga but also regarding a wide range of healthy swadeshi products – is mind-boggling. No doubt, extraordinary power and knowledge are at work through his person whose parents were illiterate farmers and who attended western type education only till 8th grade. In tune with the times, he spreads his knowledge through satellite TV and reaches millions all over the world.
He never forgets to remind his audience that there is more to yoga than asanas and pranayama. Devotion and surrender to that great power within us (bhakti yoga) are most important for a yogic life. Devotion is the greatest unifier and the goal of yoga is union with that all-pervading divine Presence. Yet to be able to feel devotion one needs to learn and reflect on that great Presence (jnana yoga) and dedicate one’s actions to it (karma yoga). This combination of knowledge, love and action is the yoga that Sri Krishna taught Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita 5000 years ago. Asanas and pranayama are helpful to purify and fine-tune the body and mind to become more transparent for the inner light.
The west tends to ignore jnana, bhakti and karma yoga and focuses on becoming physically and mentally fit. This means, it may miss out on the great potential of yoga: to realize what we truly are.
Swami Ramdev set the lively discussion on the flawed western view of yoga at rest: “even if you do only asanas and pranayama, you will slowly become a better human being”, he felt.
Still, the motivation behind any activity has undoubtedly great influence on the outcome. If someone does yoga only to become fitter and more attractive to have a better chance to fulfill his egoistic desires, it would be an insult to the Indian rishis.
