“NATUROPATHY” A PROMISING CAREER IN COMPLEMENTARY ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

1. What is Naturopathy?

  • Naturopathic medicine (also known as naturopathy ) is a school of medical philosophy and practice that seeks to improve health and treat disease chiefly by assisting the body's innate capacity to recover from illness and injury.

•  Naturopathic practice may include a broad array of different modalities, including manual therapy, hydrotherapy, herbalism, acupuncture, counseling, iridology, aromatherapy, nutritional counseling and so on.

•  Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive system of health care within the complementary and alternative medicine world that incorporates many modalities.

2. What is Yoga and Yoga Therapy?

•  Naturopathic doctors are highly educated and complete healthcare providers who integrate standard medical diagnostics with a broad range of natural therapies.

3. Do they have license to treat patients?

•  Yes, qualified Naturopathy doctors, who studied under regular educational programmed provided by Naturopathy colleges are registered in state Medical Boards. They are licensed to treat patients.

4. Can Naturopathic doctors treat acute concerns and chronic health conditions?

Yes, Naturopaths are complete holistic health care practitioners, which mean that they can treat the same conditions as a family doctor, including both acute concerns and chronic health conditions. If Naturopathy physicians are unable to treat your condition, they will refer appropriate specialist.

5. How is Naturopathic Medicine different from conventional medicine?

• The main difference is in philosophical approach. Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine help people by restoring overall health rather than suppressing a few key symptoms. Naturopaths are more concerned with finding the underlying cause of a condition and applying treatments that work in alliance with the natural healing mechanism of the body rather than against it. Naturopathic treatments result less frequently in adverse side effects, or in chronic conditions that arise when the cause of a disease is left untreated. Naturopath takes more time with a patient and takes a more comprehensive approach to help the individual.

6. Are Naturopathic Doctors opposed to drugs and surgery?

• No, Naturopathy doctors are not opposed to invasive or suppressive measures when they are deemed necessary. Naturopaths also make referrals to such treatments when deemed appropriate.

7. Is Naturopathic Medicine cost effective?

•  This approach reduces the incidence of high-cost chronic conditions and can reduce both immediate and long term health cost.

8. Naturopathic doctors cross refer to other practitioners?

• Yes, it is becoming more common that Naturopathic doctors, medical doctors, Ayurveda doctors, and other health care professionals cross refer clients for a coordinated and complete health care plan. Naturopathic doctors are trained to recognize conditions that are outside their scope of practice and to refer to other health care providers when it is appropriate.

9. Is Naturopathic medicine scientific? Is it safe?

• Every year countless research studies, both scientific and clinical, are conducted by hundreds of independent companies, laboratories and universities. With the growing demand, Naturopathic doctors meet high standards of practice and base their treatments on sound scientific studies.
As for the safety of Naturopathy, since it focuses on using substance that are natural, gentle, non-toxic, and non-invasive. Side effects are rare and Naturopathic doctors are well trained about interactions between Naturopathic remedies and conventional medication.

Salient Features of Naturopathy

The main features of Naturopathy are as under:

  1. All diseases, their causes and treatment are one. Except for traumatic and environmental conditions, the cause of all diseases is one i.e. accumulation of morbid matter in the body. The treatment of all diseases is elimination of morbid matter from the body.

  1. The primary cause of disease is accumulation of morbid matter. Bacteria and virus enter and survive in the body only after the accumulation of morbid matter when a favourable atmosphere for their growth is established in body. Hence, the basic cause of disease is morbid matter and bacteria secondary causes.
  2. Acute diseases are self-healing efforts of the body. Hence, they are our friends, not the enemy. Chronic diseases are outcome of wrong treatment and suppression of the acute diseases.
  3. Nature is the greatest healer. The human body itself has the healing power to prevent itself from disease and regain health if unhealthy.
  4. In Nature Cure it is not the disease but the entire body of the patient which is caused and is renewed.
  5. Naturopathy Cures Patients suffering from chronic ailments are also treated successfully in comparatively less time by Naturopathy.
  6. In Nature Cure the suppressed diseases are brought to surface and are removed permanently.
  7. Naturopathy treats all the aspects like physical, mental, social and spiritual at the same time.
  8. Naturopathy treats the body as a whole.
  9. According to Naturopathy, “Food is only the Medicine”, no external medications are used.
  10. Performing prayer according to one’s spiritual faith is an important part of treatment (According to Gandhiji “Rama Nama is the best Natural Treatment
